Golden Cuboids: A Design of Harmony and Lightness

Unleashing the Power of Tensegrity and the Golden Ratio

Golden cuboids, designed by Nicolas Brevers, is a mesmerizing creation that embodies harmony, balance, and aesthetics. Inspired by environmental studies, computer programming, and chemistry, Brevers has crafted a design that showcases the beauty and consistency found in the golden ratio. This innovative lighting fixture combines the principles of tensegrity and modular origami to create a truly unique and captivating piece.

At the heart of the Golden Cuboids design are three nested golden cuboids, arranged in a modular structure that can be operated using a pulley system. This allows the object to transform into a variety of different forms, providing endless possibilities for customization. The structure filters light rays, casting shadows that adorn the surrounding space with pure and varied lines.

Composed of three golden cuboids and nine equilateral triangles, this design ensures perfect proportions. The use of fine materials enhances the product's clean look, emphasizing its lightness and modernity. The combination of the golden ratio and geometric precision creates a visually stunning piece that is both aesthetically pleasing and technically impressive.

The realization of the Golden Cuboids design involves the use of materials such as ACETAL rod, brass tubes, nylon rope, an E27 brass sleeve, twisted fabric electric cable, and a glass ball. The intricate 3D design was developed using Rhino and Inventor software, ensuring precise and accurate construction.

This creation goes beyond its functional purpose and evokes a strong emotional response. Brevers' desire for balance, ideal proportions, and lightness is evident in every aspect of the design. The ability to manipulate the shape of the object allows for the creation of different shadows, adding a touch of playfulness and versatility to the space. By choosing a warm-colored bulb, the projected shadows can be minimized or eliminated, creating a completely different ambiance.

The Golden Cuboids design project was initiated in October 2014 and completed in January 2015. Brevers developed this project in Brussels, working in collaboration with the fablab Openfab Brussels. Overcoming challenges such as self-funding and working independently, Brevers has successfully brought his vision to life.

This exceptional design has garnered recognition and acclaim, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category in 2015. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills. The Golden Cuboids design exemplifies the integration of art, science, design, and technology, contributing to the improvement of quality of life.

The Golden Cuboids design, with its harmonious blend of form and function, showcases the power of the golden ratio and the artistry of Nicolas Brevers. It is a testament to the endless possibilities that arise when creativity and innovation intersect.
